AIMS

This workshop will bring together international experts, a range of stakeholders and medical professionals from all stages of training or career progression, to focus on the area of differential attainment/ award based on race, ethnicity, gender, disability and other protected characteristics 
  • To explore the whole range of leadership roles which are critical for recognising the contribution of all professionals
  • To discuss the causes, the impact and develop a consensus on solutions.

Themes

Theme 1: Developing the diverse future Executive Leader
1. What are the causes of the disparity at Executive Leadership level? What are the barriers to improving representation at Executive Leadership Roles?
2. How can we improve the pipeline for future leaders? How can we talent manage this group?
3. How can we improve the transition to executive leadership roles? Which stakeholders need to be involved in that process?
4. How can we support doctors once they are in these roles?

Theme 2: Nourishing Leadership Development in under-represented staff
1. What current Leadership opportunities are there for under-represented groups? How accessible are they?
2. What are the leadership requirements for under-represented doctors in order to succeed?
3. What would an effective leadership course look like? How will it be structured?
4. Who is in the best place to deliver this training? Who are the key stakeholders?

Theme 3: Organisational Engagement and Benchmarking to improve diversity
1. How do we know that an organisation is engaged and supports under-represented professionals? What has been done by other organisations?
2. What are the barriers to improving Organisational engagement?
3. What are the criteria we can use to benchmark organisations? What are the solutions to the challenges described?
4. What levers can we use to make benchmarking successful? What does success look like?

Theme 4: Creating a Culture of diverse Leadership
1. What are the cultural issues that prevent under-represented doctors from succeeding in leadership positions? What barriers to they face?
2. How can organisations improve their cultural climate to enhance inclusivity? How can we address structural racism?
3. What tools do organisations need to support cultural safety?
4. How can we create networks to support under-represented individuals?
