Psychological Impact of COVID-19 -
A Study of Health Professionals

University of Hertfordshire & Bapio Institute for Health Research

Invites you to complete a short survey to help us characterise your thoughts and feelings during the pandemic.

The study has ethical approval from the University of Hertfordshire, Health, Science, Engineering and Technology Ethics Committee with Delegated Authority. LMS/SF/UH/04194. BIHR registration 2020/002

Aims

Healthcare professionals are at the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic. Early surveys show that majority have experienced psychological distress, moral injury, anxiety, sleep and mood disturbances as a result of the pandemic. There has been little time to access help and psychological well-being support. Like the differential impact of COVID-19 on physical health, the psychological impact is often unseen and unheard, invisible but real. This impact is experienced to different levels by people from different backgrounds and cultures. As the first surge of the virus is abating, we are just starting to see this impact emerge. Now is the time for understanding this impact, exploring the issues surrounding it and finding solutions.

Outcomes

The study will be conducted in 2 phases. After completing this 10min survey, we would really like to follow up the survey with 1-1 interviews to explore your experiences further. You will be asked to indicate if you would be happy to do so.. The outcome of this study will help inform the research team in designing appropriate tools including self-help,  app based support and psychological debrief. Your participation will help NHS and health organisations to be better prepared to understand the support needs of their staff.
